It also our goal to give students real life performance opportunities at real rock venues, like past performance venues such as the Middle East Downstairs, Hard Rock Café, Johnny D’s, Wonder Bar, and others. Classes
Band Rehearsal with Special Guests
NEW this year, camp.groove band rehearsals will involve student bands working one on one with professional Boston area rock bands, including Nothing by Heroes. Students will rehearse daily with the band, learning the ins and outs of how to play together as a group, and will perform each week several songs in concert with the band. Student bands will also perform original songs written just for them!
Improvisation
To be a good rocker, you got to play well…to be a great rocker, you got to know how to IMPROVISE. Each day students will study improvisation with an improvisational rock guru to learn the intricacies of the “ROCK SOLO”
Recording
New this year! School of Groove has acquired professional recording equipment for exclusive student use! All students will learn from working studio engineers on a professional recoding workstation, and will study various topics in hands on classes such as:
-Recording Basics
-Garageband
-Pro-Tools
-Editing/Mixing
-Music Synthesis
Recording techniques will be receive extra emphasis during Week 6.
Songwriting
Playing in a band is only half the battle, you need to have songs too! Students will study songwriting daily, and will compose and perform at least one original song at camp.
Band Rehearsals
This is the heart and soul of camp.groove. Playing music with people. We’re not just going to teach you a power chord and say “GO!” We’re going to teach what this music stuff is all about. A true musician CREATES, and our goal is to make CREATORS out of all of you!
Master Classes
During these sessions campers will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of musical styles ranging from Middle Eastern to Celtic to Hip-hop and more. We’ve invited our favorite experts…and heck, we’re excited to learn from them too!!
