Michael Lewis

Since graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2001 and later the Boston Conservatory, Michael has been active in the Boston music scene as a teacher and performer. He has toured the East coast extensively with musical groups that have specialized in Senegalese m’balax, funk and hard-hitting rock and has studied with some of the world’s best percussionists, including Dave DiCenso, Jackie Santos, Ibrahima Camara and Bob Moses.

Michael has immersed himself in the study and performance of West African percussion with the world renown Gewel percussionist Lamine Toure. His intense passion for African music has led him to travel to Senegal, West Africa on three occasions and record two full length albums with Lamine Toure and Group Saloum.

Most recently,  Michael has been teaching courses in music production, drawing from his experience as a studio musician, composer and from his studies in audio production at the Art Institute of New England.
