How do I Join ROKSTRA?

What is ROKSTRA?
ROKSTRA is Boston’s ONLY youth orchestra/rock band combination that performs original compositions and arrangements of rock music. ROKSTRA provides students with the opportunity to perform alongside local rock bands, and Two-Time GRAMMY award winners, the Turtle Island String Quartet.
Orchestra members will participate in twelve two-hour weekly rehearsals culminating in a performance at Cambridge’s largest rock club, the Middle East Downstairs, and Boston’s finest concert venue, Jordan Hall. Students will prepare musical selections ranging from rock, to heavy metal, to alternative.
When is ROKSTRA?
FALL 2011: September 17-December 3rd. Performance at Middle East Rock Club, December 10th, 2011.
SPRING 2012: Rehearsal Dates TBD. Performance at Jordan Hall, April 14th, 2012.
Who is in ROKSTRA
Students will be selected by audition from Greater Boston high schools. Instrumentation is for strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, voice, guitar, bass, drums. Final decisions as to the composition of the orchestra will be made by School of Groove.
Where is ROKSTRA?
Rehearsals will take place at the King Open Elementary School (850 Cambridge St., Cambridge)
What will ROKSTRA be like?
We are patterning ourselves after similar group such as the Contemporary Youth Orchestra in Cleveland, Ohio, and Youth Rock Orchestra in Little Rock, Arkansas. We encourage you to view some of their videos on their websites and on youtube.
