According to my calendar, it’s “Now”, so let’s get started…

-NEW FACILITY

The School of Groove is expanding to a new facility. In January 2012, we’ll be moving to 535 Cambridge Street, just 4-5 blocks down the street toward Lechmere. This new space will be twice as large as our current space, and will house not only the school but three new ventures as well: a daycare center, a dance studio, and a performing arts space. There will be more and bigger rehearsal rooms, both for ensembles and individuals, with newer equipment. There will be a video studio for online lessons via Skype, as well as a cafe with coffee, baked goods, and treats, and a store to buy music accessories and books. And most, importantly, THERE WILL BE CENTRAL AIR!

This will be a fantastic new building, and an extensive build. We’re looking for help in constructing the space. If anyone has the time and/or experience in light construction, we could use your help at the new place. Contact Chris directly at 617-875-7851.

-SCHOOL OF GROOVE STUDENT SHOWCASE AND GROOVY AWARDS

On December 10th, School of Groove will present an all star cast of favorite performers from 2011 including the winners of the 2011 Battle of the Bands, BlackLight Sunrise. This’ll be our last performance of 2011, and a fitting end to a great year of music. Also featured this evening will be the first annual GROOVY Awards, celebrating our students achievements in the arts. Featuring the top student performers from the year, this exciting ceremony will showcase some of the great talent at School of Groove.

The School of Groove will be hosting a High School Battle of the Bands, taking place at Cambridge’s Premiere Rock Club, the Middle East Upstairs (Central Square). The event will take place on Sunday, December 12 from 1-5pm. Eight bands will be selected to perform at this exciting new event. Bands will be notified of their acceptance by November 17th, 2010.

All candidates must include a minimum of 3 songs on their EPK, band photo, instrumentation, and brief band bio. All members must be under 19, but not necessarily be a student. Bands from all genres of music are welcomed to apply, and each band must have at least three members. There must be a minimum of one instrumental player per band. DJ performers are acceptable, as long as there are other instrumentalists in the group. Each will be given 15 to 20 minutes to play, not including time to set-up/break-down.

Participating bands will compete to win the following:

Full day Recording/Mixing Lock In at Sprintline Recording Studio (Brighton, MA)

$250 Shopping Spree to Daddy’s Junky Music or Guitar Center

Paid concert performance at School of Groove 2011 summer camp

Audience members can vote for one band only, and fans may vote for the band instead of getting a stamp at the door. Each fan vote will be valued at 1 point. Three contest judges will be present, and may award 1-10 points to each band. Fan/judge votes will be tallied and a Contest Winner will be announced at the conclusion of the event.
