Ice Gala

School of Groove, and classical crossover ensemble, Boston String Quartet are partnering with non-profit organization, the Music Makers’ Foundation to present the Ice Gala, taking place at 7pm, Saturday, December 12th at Pickman Hall, Longy School of Music.

The 2009 Ice Gala will be supporting:

School of Groove, a contemporary, community music school with a current enrollment of 100 students. School of Groove is committed to providing students with an environment that is conducive towards exploration. Centrally located in East Cambridge, School of Groove serves Cambridge residents, as well as a growing population of students from surrounding towns of Boston, Somerville, Belmont, and others. Each year, School of Groove hosts upwards of ten student performances, consisting of student recitals on site at the school, outdoor music performance series, and student group performances at local music halls. Students at School of Groove participate in private music lessons, group bands and ensembles, and small group music classes.

Help us to raise money to create scholarship funds for talented youths that cannot afford to attend music classes.

The Boston String Quartet, an experimental, and education focused string ensemble. The Quartet has performed at Carnegie Hall and the LA Music Awards, has collaborated with the Boston Ballet and John Mayer, and has appeared on PBS and numerous nationwide radio channels. As part of the nationwide touring efforts of the Boston String Quartet, the group appears for multi-day music residencies at high schools throughout the United States.

The Boston String Quartet is seeking assistance in raising funds to support the Xibus Tour, an education based music tour that brings talented musicians into high schools throughout the United States. During these programs,  students participate in workshops, masterclasses, rehearsals, and are joined by the guest artists in a final evening concert.

Join us for an exciting evening of music featuring students from School of Groove, and an evening performance by the Boston String Quartet featuring classic works from Antonin Dvorak as well as Boston String Quartet originals. Full dinner will be provided by Brazilian barbeque restaurant, Midwest Grill.

As music program budgets are tightening, and student enrichment programs are suffering, this is an exciting way to make an impact in a child’s life through music.

Please join us at the Ice Gala in support of youth music programs at 7pm, Saturday, December 12th at Pickman Hall, Longy School of Music.

Tickets are $30 online, or may be purchased for $35 at the door.
